Atlas Copco Group Acquires Zahroof Valves

2 minute(s) Read

Atlas Copco Group has acquired Zahroof Valves Inc. (Zahroof). Headquartered in Houston, Zahroof designs, services, and assembles reciprocating compression valve technology.

Founded in 2010, Zahroof offers compressor valves based on modular reed valve technology. Its StraightFlo valve is a drop-in replacement compressor valve that is made up of replaceable reed valve modules designed so that the gas flows essentially in a straight line through the valve. The StraightFlo valve has a design where several standard and interchangeable modules are held stationary between the valve seat and carrier.

The company offers eight standard modules in three materials, with the same external dimensions, that cover the entire speed range and operating conditions of existing industrial compressors. A module is selected for a valve based on the operating conditions of the cylinder in which it is installed. Modules are interchangeable between valves, irrespective of the size of the valve, whether it be 1.5 in. (38 mm) or greater than 14 in. (355 mm) in diameter, and whether it is a suction valve or a discharge valve.

“We can leverage on this technology to further increase the energy efficiency in our gas compressors since less power is required than when using traditional valve technology,” said Vagner Rego, business area president of Compressor Technique. “We also see potential to use this technology to further develop our product and service offering in the growing hydrogen and carbon capture segments.”

Zahroof will become part of the Compressor Technique Business Area operating under Atlas Copco Compressors LLC. The Compressor Technique Business Area provides designs, manufactures, and supports industrial compressors, gas and process compressors and expanders, air and gas treatment equipment, and air management systems.

Zahroof marks the fifth acquisition to become part of the Compressor Technique Business Area in three months.

Also on March 4, Atlas Copco acquired the operating assets of Druckluft-Technik-Nord GmbH. The compressor distributor in Bad Oldesloe, near Hamburg, Germany, became part of the Compressor Technique Business Area.

On February 7, Ace Air (NI) Ltd. became part of the Compressor Technique Business Area. The company specializes in sales, installation, and service of compressed air systems. Headquartered in Northern Ireland, its main customers are industrial and service companies in the local area.
