European Energy Increases Green Hydrogen Footprint

Renewable Energy Developer Inaugurates Green Hydrogen Facility In Denmark

European Energy, a global renewable energy developer of wind, solar, and Power-to-X projects, has inaugurated its first green hydrogen facility in Måde, Denmark. The facility marks European Energy’s first venture into large-scale hydrogen production using renewable energy.

Construction of the facility was completed in June 2024 and after a successful commissioning phase, the facility is now operational with the first electrolyzer supplied by the Danish company Stiesdal. Plans are already in place to expand the facility with two additional electrolyzers, which are expected to be installed in 2025. When all three electrolyzers are operating, the plant will have a total capacity of 12 MW and an expected annual production of 1500 metric tonnes of hydrogen.

The green hydrogen produced at the Måde facility will be supplied to the Port Esbjerg. In addition, excess heat generated from the hydrogen production process will be utilized by DIN Forsyning, the local heating utility in Esbjerg municipality, further contributing to the de-carbonization of the municipality.

International energy and services company Centrica will serve as the facility’s balancing and optimization partner, ensuring that energy usage and hydrogen production are efficiently managed to maximize output and minimize costs.
