Baker Hughes will supply eight main refrigerant compression packages to Tellurian Inc. for Phase 1 of the Driftwood LNG project. The agreement secures a delivery schedule for the eight LM6000PF+ gas turbines, main refrigerant compressors, and control units required for Phase 1, supporting Driftwood’s ability to achieve initial liquefied natural gas (LNG) production in 2027.

Tellurian Inc. began construction on its US$16.8 billion Driftwood LNG plant in April 2022. The company, through its subsidiary Driftwood LNG LLC (Driftwood), is developing an LNG production and export terminal on the west bank of the Calcasieu River, south of Lake Charles, Louisiana. Once complete, the terminal will be able to export 27.6 MPTA of LNG to customers worldwide. The first phase of Driftwood construction is designed to process 11 MTPA of LNG.

“Bechtel has done a tremendous job preparing the site and has already completed the piling and compressor foundations for Plant 1 of Driftwood LNG,” said Tellurian President and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Octávio Simões. “This agreement with Baker Hughes firms up our plans to secure the critical technology for Driftwood Phase 1.”

Baker Hughes is also on schedule to complete, by early next year, fabrication of the electric-powered, zero-emissions integrated compressor line (ICL) packages and other turbomachinery equipment for Driftwood Pipeline 200 project, following the award in 2022. That project involves the construction of dual 42-in. (1-m) natural gas pipelines (Line 200 and Line 300) and an approximately 211,200-hp (157,555-kW) electric compressor station and appurtenant facilities in Beauregard and Calcasieu Parishes, Louisiana. When completed, the project will have a nominal capacity of 4.6 Bscf/d (130 × 106m3/d). The purpose of the project is to provide enhanced supply access to the natural gas market in the Lake Charles area and support the growing LNG markets in and around the Lake Charles region in Calcasieu Parish.

“This agreement builds on the established collaboration between Baker Hughes and Tellurian as we continue to execute on our scope for the Driftwood Pipeline 200, which includes providing zero-emissions ICL compressor packages for their first deployment in North America,” said Lorenzo Simonelli, Chair and CEO of Baker Hughes. “Leveraging our 30 years of experience in LNG and broad portfolio of technologies for the natural gas value chain, we are pleased to support Tellurian also for the Driftwood liquefaction plant with our gas technology solutions.”
