Saudi Arabia is planning five new projects to produce electricity using renewable energy. The projects are the fourth phase of the Kingdom’s National Renewable Energy Program (NREP). The NREP’s goal is to increase the use of renewable energy in Saudi Arabia as part of its Vision 2030 plan. One of the main objectives of Vision 2030 is for the contribution of renewable energy to reach up to 50% of the overall energy mix by 2030.

The five projects, with a total capacity of 3300 MW, include three wind energy projects and two solar energy projects.

With a total output of 1800 MW, the wind projects include a 700-MW wind farm in Yanbu, a 600-MW wind project in Al-Ghat, and 500-MW project in Waad Al-Shamal.

New solar projects will bring 1500 MW of new capacity and include a 1100-MW project in Al-Henakiyah and a 400-MW project in Tubarjal.
