1 minute(s) Read

CPS Energy, the largest municipally owned electric and natural gas utility in the United States, has entered into a long-term power purchase agreement (PPA) with Genesis Consolidated Industries Holdings (GCI) for a 150-MW solar project called Exodus 1. The solar farm will be located in Caldwell County, Texas.

“I am proud of the work we have done to secure another 150 MW of solar energy for our growing community,” said Rudy D. Garza, president and chief executive officer of CPS Energy. “We look forward to our partnership with GCI and are excited about the economic development opportunities this partnership will provide the greater San Antonio area.”

The solar project is expected to come online in the summer 2025 and will help serve the energy needs of the San Antonio community for a 25-year period. As part of a related community benefits agreement, GCI will contribute at least US$300,000 to engineering and technical educational programs within the greater San Antonio area once the project is initiated.

CPS Energy has 551 MW of operating solar capacity, and with the Exodus 1 project, now has secured an additional 730 MW in aggregate contracted solar currently in various phases of construction for its generation portfolio.
