Sapphire Acquires Cleancor

On August 1, 2022, Sapphire Gas Solutions (Sapphire) acquired Cleancor Holdings LLC (Cleancor) which operated as CLEANCOR Energy Solutions LLC and CLEANCOR LNG LLC, with offices throughout the United States. Cleancor provides compressed natural gas (CNG), liquefied natural gas (LNG), renewable natural gas (RNG), and hydrogen solutions for industrial, commercial, transportation, and pipeline infrastructure applications.

“The acquisition of Cleancor is a natural fit for both companies and will significantly enhance Sapphire’s service footprint and capabilities across North America,” said Sam Thigpen, CEO of Sapphire. “We are excited about this acquisition and look forward to continuing the service excellence both companies’ customers have come to know.”

Headquartered in Conroe, Texas, Sapphire is a turnkey infrastructure services and equipment provider focused on gas supply and energy transition solutions across the United States. It provides CNG, RNG, and LNG solutions to industrial, utility, manufacturing, and other end-use applications across the United States.

“Cleancor’s current customers will be able to take advantage of economies of scale and the increase in resources that Sapphire can supply,” said Joseph Zimowski, director of Marketing & Commercial Strategy at Sapphire. “This advantage manifests with quicker mobilization time for emergency projects and a more diverse set of equipment with parameters more closely aligned to project specifications providing more value to the customer.”

The acquisition of Cleancor expands Sapphire’s footprint into the western United States, increases its equipment fleet capacity, and adds new service offering to its portfolio.

“Cleancor’s compression stations and fleet fueling expertise in the natural gas space along with the strategic partnerships within compression and RNG procurement and management provide opportunities for Sapphire’s continued growth and expands the turnkey solutions Sapphire delivers to its customers,” said Zimowski. “Cleancor’s compression station footprint in southern and central California opens a new service line for Sapphire. The assets purchased with the acquisition do not have a lead time and can be immediately used for current and future projects.”

“Sapphire believes the ‘energy on demand’ industry will undergo consolidation as energy demand continues to grow and the energy infrastructure in this country continues to move toward renewable energy sources,” added Zimowski. “This acquisition is part of that process, and when market dynamics presented the opportunity to Sapphire to purchase Cleancor, the timing and value offered were right. Cleancor performs services that complement Sapphire’s offerings, and the acquisition timing fits into Sapphire’s strategic goals.”
