Chart And Wolf Carbon Solutions Collaborate On Carbon Capture Utilization Projects

Companies will jointly identify, develop, pursue, and execute projects at sites along Wolf’s Mt. Simon Hub carbon pipeline system.

Chart Industries Inc. (Chart), a manufacturer of cryogenic equipment and technologies for the industrial gas and clean energy industries, has signed a memorandum of understanding with Wolf Carbon Solutions US LLC (Wolf).

Through the cooperation agreement, both companies will jointly identify, develop, pursue, and execute projects using Chart’s cryogenic carbon capture (CCC) technology at mutually agreed upon host sites located along Wolf’s Mt. Simon Hub carbon pipeline system.

In January, Wolf and ADM, a global nutrition and agriculture origination and processing company, announced plans for the pipeline. The Mt. Simon Hub will allow for the capture, compression, and transportation of carbon dioxide (CO₂) produced at ADM’s Clinton and Cedar Rapids, Iowa, facilities to its fully permitted and operating storage site in Decatur, Illinois. This will be done via a 280-mile (451-km) steel pipeline capable of transporting 12 million tons (10.8 million tonnes) of CO₂ per year. The pipeline system will have significant spare capacity, capable of servicing other third-party customers looking to lower carbon emissions across the Midwest and Ohio River Valley.

This Chart/Wolf collaboration will also focus on future phases of the Wolf project including an extension north toward Chicago and east into Indiana and the Ohio River Valley, where refineries and cement, steel, petrochemical, and other operational industries are looking to capture, transport, and sequester CO2 emissions from their industrial facilities.
