RWE Renewables (RWE) has started commercial operation on its 250-MW onshore Scioto Ridge Wind Farm. The project, located in Hardin and Logan Counties, is powered by turbines from Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy (Siemens Gamesa) and represents RWE’s first onshore wind project in Ohio.

“Scioto Ridge marks our successful entry in the Ohio market,” said Silvia Ortin, COO Onshore Wind and Solar PV Americas, at RWE Renewables “The state’s location in the heartland of the United States offers ideal conditions for renewable energy and we are happy to bring this project online as part of our focus on the US market.”

Siemens Gamesa was awarded the contract in 2019, which included the supply of 63 SG 3.4-132 and 9 SG 2.6-114 wind turbines and a 10-year service and maintenance agreement.

Siemens Gamesa’s blade manufacturing facility in Fort Madison, Iowa, and nacelle and hub assembly facility in Hutchinson, Kansas, provided SG 3.4-132 components for the project.
