Segway has unveiled plans to launch a hydrogen-electric hybrid motorcycle in 2023. While specific details of the Apex H2 are sparse, the company says that the hydrogen-electric powertrain will be fueled by replaceable canisters. These cylinders will be built out of solid alloy, ensuring the safe storage and usage on the motorcycle. The Apex H2 will use one gram of hydrogen for every kilometer, the company said, and offer a maximum power output of 80 hp (60 kW). Segway has reported that the Apex H2 will from 0 to 60 mph in under 4 seconds and achieve a top speed of 93 mph.

The Segway brand, best known for its two-wheeled self-balancing personal transporter, was purchase by China’s Ninebot in 2015. Headquartered in Beijing, Ninebot is a privately held company founded in 2012 by a group of robotic engineers interested in developing new technology for use in environmental protection and artificial intelligence.

Today, the combined company’s focus is on the research and development, design, manufacturing, distribution, and sales of short-distance transportation products.
