Caterpillar Wins EPA 2020 Clean Air Excellence Award In Clean Air Technology

Caterpillar’s 3512E Tier 4 Final DGB Engine

Caterpillar has been awarded the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Clean Air Excellence Award in Clean Air Technology for its Cat 3512E Tier 4 Dynamic Gas Blending (DGB) engine. The first and only DGB engine in the industry certified to US EPA Tier 4 Final emission standards, the Cat 3512E enables operations to reduce diesel consumption and greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions while maintaining power, performance, and reliability. According to Caterpillar, the dual-fuel engine automatically maximizes the amount of gas used to displace diesel, resulting in fuel savings without giving up the power, performance, reliability, or ease of maintenance and packaging of a Caterpillar engine.

The Cat 3512E has an industry-leading diesel displacement rate of 85%. It also has the industry’s widest fuel flexibility — operating on compressed natural gas (CNG), liquefied natural gas (LNG), pipeline gas, and field gas. According to Caterpillar, it also has the industry’s greatest GHG emission reduction, which results in no emission increases compared to the diesel model.
